The Ticwatch S and E is a semi-new smartwatch from Chinese AI startup Mobvoi. About 4 months ago, the released their 2nd generation smartwatch, the Ticwatch SE Both watches offer great specs at a low price. Let’s take a dive into how they perform.
TICWATCH S VS TICWATCH E
Both models are powered by the MediaTek 2160 dual core processor clocked at 1.2 Mhz and have 4 GB storage with a 300 mah battery. NFC support is non-existent for both. The only main difference is that one has the GPS chip on the band (Ticwatch S), while the other is built into the casing. According to their website, the Ticwatch S, or Ticwatch Sport, is supposed to be more accurate in terms of GPS.

EXTERIOR
The overall exterior design give a minimalist feeling, however the casing of the watch is quite bulky and doesn’t look good on small wrists. On the Ticwatch E, the band is exchangeable. However, since the GPS in built into the band on the S, its band cannot be changed. The watch is very light and very comfortable to wear. Except for THE HEART RATE SENSOR.
The heart rate sensor is build into to back of the watch. Which would be fine, except it sticks out like a button. When you wear the watch for even an hour, the heart rate sensor leaves a visible imprint on your hand.
However, other than that major flaw and the watch being to bulky, the Ticwatch looks great.
USER INTERFACE
Even though only powered by a MediaTek processor, the Ticwatch performs on par with other major-name smartwatch. The UI(Android Wear 2.0) is smooth and rarely freezes or lags. The screen is quite sensitive and very responsive. Overall, the UI doesn’t really hold many flaws.
BATTERY AND CHARGING
The battery life is advertised at 48 hours, but daily use shows only about 24+ hours. Other users have reported only having 8 hours a day.
BATTERY LIFE
Occasional Message checking/ Checking time – Bluetooth, No GPS = 40 hours use (standby+use)
+ 1 hours GPS = 30 hours
+ 2 hour GPS and WIFI on = 20 hours
+ GPS always on and WIFI on = 10 hours
+ Always on display = -5 hours
CHARGING
The charging is is quite fast, at about 1 hour to a full charge. The pin-magnetic charger works very well, even though wireless charging is not present.
WORKOUT
The GPS is very accurate and only takes about 30 second to lock onto your position. Route tracking can use your phone’s GPS, or the inbuilt GPS. Step Tracking is not as sensitive and can give some false steps. As for the heart rate sensor that sticks out, there definitely is more work needed. High heart rates are not recorded very accurately, so this watch is not for athletes.
OVERALL MAJOR FLAWS And FLAW SEVERITY:
- Poor battery life 7/10
- Tilt to wake is not sensitive 5/10
- Heart Rate Sensor sticks out 9/10
- Inaccurate Pedometer 4/10
RATING
Design/Exterior 7/10
User Interface 9/10
Battery 8/10
Hardware 8/10
Workout Option 7/10
Price 10/10
OVERALL SCORE: 8.1/10
Great and affordable watch with useful specs. More Refinement needed in terms of hardware, but Mobvoi had definitely put together an amazing smartwatch – for a hard-to-resist price.
